Lucky Jar Syndrome 🍀

Packaging Design

It’s a project about creating new things for Chelsea Physical Garden. It is a historic botanical garden that grows various herbs. When researching pomegranates, I discovered they have sacred meanings in a certain religion. I realised that plants may contain magical properties in different social cultures, such as protection, luck, and prosperity; special plant combinations form the mysterious world of herbal magic. And, through searching, I found that the herbs in the recipe for making magic spell jars are almost all grown in Chelsea Physical Garden. So, I decided to use spell jar as a new product and design packaging for it to be sold in stores.

Time Capsule 🕘

Book Design

"Time Capsule" is a book that showcases the defining characteristics of different eras. The book consists of three periods: traffic strikes, limited editions, and pop-up advertisements. As this information can be found online in the digital age, the book's design incorporates the computer desktop and web page frame as the primary visual elements. Additionally, the book features pop-up ads that appear throughout different sections to demonstrate its viral effect. The cover is made of laser-cut mirror acrylic and grayboard, giving it a modern technological feel.

Emotional Plants  🌱

3D Motion Design

Emotional Plants is a project that combines plants with body parts to express emotions. The 3d plants contain emotions including shyness, curiosity, and nervousness. I tried to use some common behaviours to express the feeling.

Folding Typeface 🔖

Typeface Design, Relief Printing

For this project, I attempted to create typefaces using folding engineering and then print them as alphabets through relief printing.

Mixed Messages

Typography Poster Design

The Mixed Messages project is about image-free, black-and-white posters, which include formal and expressive posters with Cooper Black and Bodoni fonts. Hierarchy is the primary typography design element in both posters.

Loop

Motion Graphic Design

In the Loop project, I aimed to analyse and replicate the motion of a human figure. I filmed the body in motion from the side to showcase the interaction between different body parts. This interconnected and interactive relationship reminded me of a machine assemblage. Therefore, I delved into the working principles between various parts, like the sleeper and the crank, and then used basic geometry to abstract the human body. Finally, I created interpretive gifs based on these abstractions.

Neglect Cause Blur

Poster Design, Zine Design, Badge Design

For the Advocate project, I focused on the issue of myopia and created a campaign around it. I designed posters, zines, and badges with the slogan "neglect causes blur" to emphasise the importance of addressing myopia. I incorporated elements such as the red house from the auto-fogging chart system, eye test chart, and defocused camera to represent the issue visually.

Access All Areas

Intervention Design

Access All Areas is a project that involves creating typographic interventions for spaces that are considered 'non-places'. For my project, I chose a construction area as the main object and used the message "EXTEND EXPECT" for the intervention. I used the scaffolding as a 3D grid system to create letters and formed the words so that they could only be seen from specific positions.

Transition: Light & Dark

3D Motion

The Transition project centres around the conversion of light and dark. I have observed that light is often accompanied by halos and glowing rays, while shadows have more well-defined boundaries. Although light cannot be captured, shadows are present in almost all objects. In my project's video, I portrayed a constantly changing light to represent light and a simple 3D object with shadows to represent darkness. I searched for similarities to connect and change the picture by comparing changes in different videos. I aimed to showcase the interchanging nature of light and shadows throughout the video.

Static Action: Rotate & Gravity

3D Motion

In the Static Action project, I tried to use motion design to showcase the words "Rotate" and "Gravity." The growth of the plant better expresses the meaning of rotation and gravity. So, I used the jelly effect on the Blender to create the 3D dynamics of plant roots growing around.

Butterfly

Letterpress, Editorial Design

Inspired by ASCII Art, I created a butterfly using letterpress and added surrounding objects to provide context. I experimented with colours and overlapping to create a ghosting effect.
